Salty Chocolate Chip Cookies

Salty Chocolate Chip Cookies

Like most people in this world, my kids just love a good chocolate chip cookie. While they like traditional sugary cookies made with milk chocolate chips, as a family we prefer these rich and decadent ones made with dark chocolate chips and flaky sea salt. With each bite, you get loads of chocolate flavor from the higher cocoa content in the dark chips

and

a burst of salt that brings all the flavors together. Simply magical!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup butter (unsalted, room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz chocolate chips (semi-sweet or bittersweet)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
  • Flaky sea salt (Maldon brand)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, kosher salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside.

  3. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat butter, brown sugar, sugar, and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

  4. Add egg yolks, egg, and vanilla and beat until mixture is pale and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

  5. Reduce speed to low and add in dry ingredients, mixing until just incorporated into the butter mixture.

  6. Using a spatula, fold in chocolate chips and walnuts.

  7. Spoon rounded tablespoonfuls of cookie dough onto 2 parchment paper-lined baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Remember, cookies expand as they bake!

  8. Sprinkle cookies with sea salt.

  9. Bake cookies until golden brown around the edges (about 10-12 minutes).

  10. Remove from oven and let cool slightly on lined baking sheets, then transfer to wire racks to let cool completely. Remember, cookies firm up while cooling!

Bon appétit!
