Classic Hummus & Baked Pita
Classic Hummus & Baked Pita
Whether you spell it hummus or houmous, this classic recipe is simply delicious and super-easy to make. You will always find some in my refrigerator along with some cut-up carrots and cucumbers.
Ingredients
- 2 cans chickpeas, (drained & washed)
- 4 teaspoons tahini
- 2 cloves garlic, (crushed)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 3-4 ice cubes
- Coriander, cilantro, or parsley leaves, (for garnish)
- 6 6-inch whole wheat pitas
- 1 tablespoon zatar seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cut each pita into 8 wedges.
- Pour olive oil into a bowl and add zatar seasoning.
- Brush both sides of each pita slice with olive oil mixture and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
- While the pita is baking, in a food processor, add all ingredients and process until smooth. Add more ice cubes if needed.
- Spoon into a bowl and top with 2 tablespoons olive oil, then garnish with more zatar seasoning and coriander, cilantro, or parsley leaves.
- Remove the pita from the oven and serve with hummus.
