Party

Party food has one job, if you ask me, which is to be eaten standing up and in one hand. Everything here is perfect for that.

Curried cashews and Za’atar roasted chickpeas can be put out in bowls, but don’t be surprised if they quickly disappear!

My avocado chickpea dip and namkeen are a couple of 10-minute options you can fall back on when someone tells you they’re hosting a potluck… tomorrow.

If you want to make something more substantial, cauliflower and chickpea tacos and potato turnovers will sit nicely on a table for hours.

And for those with a sweet tooth, my peanut butter dessert bites and vegan brownies both cut into small squares, which is exactly what you want when there are 20 people to serve. My full party collection is below with more recipe ideas.

Choose things that hold at room temperature for two hours without suffering. Pav bhaji works if you can keep it warm, and it feeds a lot of people cheaply. Paneer biryani is the crowd pleaser. Potato turnovers and namkeen both travel in a tin and need no serving equipment beyond a bowl.

Salty, spiced and small. Curried cashews and Mexican spice peanuts are the classics and both keep for a week in a jar. Namkeen gives you crunch without heaviness. For something to pair with a drink rather than soak it up, serve herb infused white sangria alongside and let the food stay simple.

Za’atar roasted chickpeas, curried cashews and Mexican spice peanuts are all naturally gluten free and dairy free. Avocado chickpea dip is both, served with cut vegetables instead of pita. Watermelon cucumber salad is free of both as well. Check any spice blend for anti caking agents if a guest is coeliac.
